PICAF
ABOUT PICAF
Penang International Container Art Festival (PICAF) is an international street/ urban art festival, featuring the urban art on container installations towards celebrating the vibrant street art scene in Penang. It is officially supported by Penang State Government with an initiative to place make five different neighbourhoods within Penang Island and Mainland through relevant container art installations that could present the local identities of Penang to the public eyes, towards creating “sense of place” among the locals as well as the visitors.
PICAF is also aiming to continue breaking through the limits in art and creativity towards making Penang a hub or destination for street artists and street art enthusiasts from cities around the world.
During PICAF, 12 featured street artists (5 international artists; 7 Malaysian artists) are invited to create large-scale murals on the pop-up container art installations at five selected venues of PICAF. 3 Malaysian artists will be working individually while two teams of 2 will work in collaboration. The installation artworks will be displayed at each of the PICAF venues located on Penang’s Island (i.e. Balik Pulau) and the Mainland (i.e. Bandar Cassia (Batu Kawan) and Butterworth).
